I am sitting on a plane flying back to Portland. I am lucky enough to have the whole row to myself, yet unlucky to have the people in front of me lean back and give me no room for my laptop. So imagine me siting sideways across two seats,with my laptop on one pull down tray, and my right arm on the other tray. Ah, the luxuries of traveling coach. Is it still called coach or is it just, “Now boarding group 4.”? Moooo.
I am trying not to sleep on the plane even thought I am exhausted. My plane lands at 10:45 p.m. at PDX and I have to be in the office by 9 a.m. tomorrow. If I sleep on this second leg of the trip I would not be able to fall asleep and be up late, and be useless at work. Its interesting how one can spend the past fives days drinking free alcohol into the wee hours of the morning and be able to listen, take notes, participate, learn, and interact with people the next day, only to start the cycle all over again that evening. Yet one can have a full nights rest, go to work, and be out of it by lunch. One of the many “pieces of loot” that I picked up while at SXSW. I guess fortune cookies, do know what they are talking about.

I am on my way to SXSW in Austin and I arrived at PDX airport almost two hours early, so I decided to get something to eat. The cheapest appetizing option for me was Panda Express. With every meal at Panda you get a fortune cookie. I think I laughed out loud when I cracked open the cookie and read the ancient wisdom of the fortune cookie gurus. It read, “You will be traveling and coming into a fortune”. My first reaction was, “Wow! I guess this is going to be a great trip”. Then I wondered if they have different categories for fortune cookies, depending on where the restaurant is. If it is located at an airport, like the one in PDX, then you get fortunes that have to do with travel. If the restaurant is located in a casino, then you will get fortunes dealing with winning lots of money. You get the point.
I was very tempted to go back and order another meal to see what my fortune would be a second time, but the food there isn’t all that good. So I guess I will just assume that I will come into a fortune in the next 6 days. I can’t wait. It should be a good time. I am meeting up with my friends Mike and Al. This will be mine and Al’s first time there. This will be Mike’s 4th SXSW, so we will be looking to him for some advice.
Well, they will be starting to board my flight shortly, so I better get to my gate.
