Happy Autumnal Equinox!
September 22nd, 2005
In celebration of the Autumnal Equinox I have decide to look back and reflect on my summer, which included: hiking, backpacking, car camping, Timbers games, festivals, concerts, brewing beer, playing a zombie in a movie and hanging out with friends, both new and old. It has been a great summer!
I did a ton of hiking this summer and I feel that I am in the best shape since graduating High School. It was great when Krystal, who is extremely athletic, told me that she was pissed that I kicked her butt on a hike even with all the smoking that I do. That comment made me smile. I also went backpacking twice, with the first trip being my first ever. I am hoping to get one more trip in before it gets too cold.
At the end of July I took a trip with my friend Marilee, her friend Ben, and her brother Jim to Jaialdi. Jaialdi is a Basque festvial that occurs every 5 years in Boise, ID. I was really excited because my last name Asteínza is Basque, but I really don’t know that much about my Basque origins. The festival has inspired me to look into my Basque heritage. On the way there and back we took group pictures every hour on the hour, which was a lot fun. You can check out those and other pictures here.
I had season tickets to the Timbers this year. Unfortunately they didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs again. Damn it! They just didn’t seem to have it in them the last couple of games. A lot of people are blaming the coach, which I agree to some level, but the players sometimes look like they don’t even care who wins. We’ll see what happens next season.
Portland, and the Pacific Northwest is a great place for those that love beer, especially micro-brews. There are literally hundreds of micro-brewers in this area, and they get together a couple of times during the summer and through out the year for different festivals. These festivals are a great chance to taste different kinds of beer and are a lot of fun. They also inspire home brewers like my self and my friend Mark. We both brewed our first full mash this summer, with Mike‘s help. Thanx Mike! We need to finish building a rack so that next time it will be easier.
Doing a bunch of different activities, learning different things, and meeting different people, has been a great experience. I hope that it will continue. Even though there was some not so great moments, overall the summer was great. I want to thank everyone that let me enjoy it with them. It was a blast. Thank you! So what do we have planned for the fall?
