I Am Now a Fire Dancer

Friday night I fire danced for the first time. Since Feburary I have been learning how to spin poi from Shireen Press of Pele’s Element and its been awesome. I absolutely love it! I have been using practice poi to learn the different moves. On Friday I used Shireens’s fire poi and it was so much fun.

The first thing I noticed, after the heat, was the sound that the flames make as you spin them around. Each move has a different sound that after some time I imagine will let me know if I am doing the move smoothly or not.

I did hit myself twice as I was spinning, but there was only two little black marks on my shirt where the poi hit. There was one little incident when I poured the extra fuel from the spin off bottle into a little vessel that we were using to light the poi. It looked like it was no longer burning, but I was instantly proven wrong when the fule hit the vessel and a little fire ball came back in my direction. The only victim was the spin off bottle itself, the top half melted shut.

There is a pretty big community here in PDX of fire dancers. The first and third Sunday of every month there is fire jam on the West end of SE Salmon. Come down and check it out if you are interested in seeing fire dancing live.

I Believe I Have Turned Into a Soccer Fan

I went to the first pre-season Timbers game against Seattle and bought season tickets. I think this makes me a fan.

Last year I had passes to climb Mount St. Helens on the same day that the Timbers were playing Seattle in a semi-final. I gave up my passes and now St Helens is acting up, so who knows when I will be able to get passes again. I think this makes me a fan.

Last night’s game was fun. As one of the guys I was with said, “That was a nice appetizer!” It felt a little strange yet remotely familiar to be standing w/ The Timbers Army again. I was impressed by how much it has grown. At the begining of last year’s season section 107 was probably about half full. Last night it was so full that people where spilling into the surrounding sections.

I am looking forward to an extremely enjoyable season.

Next game, this Wednesday, exhibition match against MLS LA Galaxy.

The Painted Hills Image is Mine

One of the guys at work asked where I got the picture of the Painted the Hills for the header. The picture is mine. I took it last year with my Cannon PowerShot A70. Its cropped from a larger picture.

April First is A Good New Begining, Isn’t it?

I have slowy been reworking civrot.org but I have never had enough time to finish. I was hoping to get it done by my 29th birthday (which was three days ago), but I didn’t. I was just sitting in front of my machine browsing the web, while I wait for a friend of mine, and I decided that I should just post the new site in its condition and work on it as time goes by. Besides who reads this site anyways?
